Option 2 - Trek
from Valdermossa to Pollensa
This
is a 9 day holiday (8 nights) and is a tough walk across the
Tramuntana Mountains, which run along the north west coast of
Majorca. The distance is about 60 miles and the walk takes 6 days to
complete, to include a rest day in Soller. We follow ancient
pilgrims’ trails most of the way, and stay in some amazing places.
A summary of the
itinerary is as follows:-

Day
1
Fly into Palma airport. Local bus to the station to catch the 1920’s
style, wood - panelled train, through the mountains, to Soller on
the west coast. Local bus to Deia, where we stay in a typical
Spanish pension near the top of the village, overlooking the
valley. Deia is a delightful village surrounded by mountains. Dinner
at a local restaurant (cost included).
Day 2.
Walk from Valldemossa to Deia (5 hours). Breakfast on the terrace
then a local bus to the splendid historic town of Valldemossa, where
the walk starts. We follow the Archduke Luis Salvador path up onto
the high plateau below Mount Teix (3000ft), which leads onto some of
the most spectacular views in Majorca. We can either return to
Valldemossa to see the sights, and get the bus back to Deia, or carry
on over the mountain and make our way down to Deia. Dinner at a
local restaurant (cost not included)

Day 3.
Walk from Deia to
Soller (4 ˝ hours). Breakfast on the terrace. Luggage sent on by
road. We follow the path from the village down to the beach where
we pick up the coastal path and follow the trail past deserted coves
and rocky headlands. After a cooling swim in the sea we head inland,
to join the old wayfarers route which takes us along the hillside,
past Son Mico a beautiful antique manor house with magnificent views
across the coast, before arriving in Soller. We stay in a lovely 4*
hotel with swimming pool, formally a bishops palace. Dinner in a
local restaurant (cost not included).
Day 4.
Rest Day. Soller is a traditional Majorcan town famed for its citrus
fruit growing and surrounded by high peaks on three sides. The
lovely old town square with café’s and restaurants is ideal for
sitting and watching the world go by. Today you can sunbathe by the
pool, lunch in the square, take the open sided tram to the port, go
on the beach or do some shopping. There is much to see and do in
Soller. Dinner in a local restaurant (cost not included).
Day 5.
Walk from Soller to Tossal Verds (8 hours). An early breakfast in
the hotel. Luggage will be kept at the hotel awaiting our return on
day 8. This is the most strenuous day, and we leave Soller along
quiet back lanes, past orange and lemon groves to Biniaraix, where
we climb up Es Barranc, a cobbled stairway dating back to Roman
times. This takes us up past ancient olive groves, rock faces and
rushing streams into the L’Ofre high valley, with spectacular views
back over Soller. From the Coll de L’Ofre we head down hill past Lake Cuber, with views to Gorg Blau, through the holm oak woods, past the
famous 7km long Canaleta de Massanella aqua duct, to spend the night
at the Tossals Verds mountain refuge. Tossals Verds is in a stunning
mountain location, and provides comfortable dormitory accommodation.
Hot showers, cool drinks, clean bedding and a hearty meal with local
wine (cost included), brings a tough but exhilarating day to an end.
Day 6.
Walk from Tossals Verds to Lluc (6 hours). Breakfast at the Refuge.
We walk back up past the Canaleta de Massanella to the Font des
Prat where we top up our water, then on to the Coll des Prat
immediately below the vertical face of Massanella, the highest
accessible point in Majorca. From the Coll des Prat there are
wonderful views north over the mountains to the coast at Puerto
Pollensa and Alcudia. We follow the track down the valley to the
road, which is a short distance from the monastery at Lluc. This is
the destination of pilgrims over the centuries and is the
evangelical heart of Majorca. Here we have en-suite cells for the
night. Dinner in the monastery restaurant (cost not included)

Day 7.
Walk from Lluc to Pollensa (4 ˝ hours). After breakfast we pick up
another ancient trail which descends gently through beautiful
landscape below Mount Tomir and eventually meet the main Pollensa
road which leads to the “old” road and take us into Pollensa town
square - the end of our walk. We stay in the annexe of the oldest
hotel in Majorca dating from 1907, situated just off the town
square. Dinner in a local restaurant (cost not included).
Day 8.
Time for a bit of sight seeing in Pollensa - breakfast in the hotel
then walk up the 365 steps to the chapel at El Calvari, visit the
Roman bridge or browse the stalls on market day. Local bus back to
Soller, where we are reunited with our luggage at our 4* hotel.
Celebration final dinner at a local restaurant (cost included).
Day 9.

More time in Soller. Relaxing by the pool, sightseeing, shopping etc
then train/bus or taxi to the airport to catch flight home.
The itinerary is
subject to change depending upon hotel availability.
